Many folks turn to different things when under stress or to find ways to get by in life. Some turn to alcohol, some turn to drugs and some never truly know how to deal with their emotions or the stresses of the day in a way that is healthy mentally and physically. I have found throughout my personal endeavours in life, that exercise in all forms brings calmness and I have never felt the same way in entering a gym and in leaving the gym. It is for this reason that just as a walk in nature is medicine for the soul, it is the same with some form of strenuous exercise that can bring much balance to the daily struggles we face be it big or small.
I truly believe that sports is not simply a key to success, it is the key to handle setbacks. To train the mind to be more resilient, on how to win and lose graciously and all in the aim of being a better person. I personally believe that through sports we can instil in the young a sense of desire, discipline and self-belief - all prerequisites of being better people. More specifically to Boxing and Muay Thai, it is not about training one to be aggressive, it is the complete opposite, it is training one to be disciplined in the mind and body to use martial arts to defend oneself and to channel one’s aggression to more beneficial and uplifting goals. When a young kid can come on his own diligently to the gym to work out knowing he will endure physical and mental drilling and to adhere to his coach’s instructions and discipline and then to be humbled by the adversity thrown at him or her and to succeed, I believe this is where real transformation takes place for them to see their overall skill and body develop over time. It has been the hallmark of all successful people.
It has always been a dream to start something that hopefully can catalyse someone’s life and to set them on a path that encompasses a strong sense of self belief, discipline and achievement. This is how and why Kendall Court Chiampions was formed. To set something that hopefully will be sustainable and carry on a legacy of bettering the youths of today through physical exercise. We have started with Boxing and Muay Thai as a first step and hope that this program will lead to other sports someday. This is my dream. I truly hope that I can have you with me on this journey in every small way possible to help the youth of today and with Coach Alvin and Coach Devan with me, I am so grateful for the opportunity to achieve this dream of ours.
